Laboratory experiments
In order to participate in experiments conducted by researchers of the Experimental Laboratory at the Faculty of Economics, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, you must register online and provide a signed copy of this form to the Institute for Entrepreneurial and Behavioural Decision Making. The signature can also be provided when participating in the first experiment after registration.
Registration for laboratory experiments is a declaration of intent to participate in experiments conducted by the Institute's scientists.
Rules for laboratory experiments
- For each experiment, a certain number of registered persons receive an invitation by e-mail. Only invited persons are entitled to participate in the experiment.
- You can only register once in the ORSEE database. Registering multiple accounts undermines our scientific research. Any participant found with more than one profile will be excluded from all future studies.
- After receiving an invitation by e-mail to a specific experiment, a positive response must be made by the participant in order to be enrolled in this experiment. This response is a binding commitment to participate in this experiment.
- For each experiment, more participants may be invited than needed. Only those who show up at the lab on time will participate in the experiment. If more participants than required are present on time, the participation in the experiment is decided by lot. Participants who have been invited and are present on time, but cannot participate due to capacity or other reasons, will be compensated for their appearance.
- The expense allowance for invited participants who are present on time is 3.50€ if the person in question is not included or the experiment has to be cancelled. Otherwise, the amount of compensation often depends on the course of the experiment. Participants are usually paid in cash.
- The amount paid out depends on the random principle and on one's own decisions and, depending on the experiment conducted, on the decisions of the other participants.
- During an experiment, each participant must follow the rules set by the experiment leaders in the instructions.
- In order to ensure that only invited and properly registered by e-mail participants take part in the experiment, each participant must identify himself/herself (document with picture). If a participant cannot identify himself/herself, he/she will not receive any compensation for his appearance and may not be able to participate in the experiment.
- Participants who have declared their willingness to participate in a particular experiment and do not show up or show up too late must be aware of the fact that they thereby jeopardize the implementation of the experiment due to lack of participants.
By registering for laboratory experiments, you agree to the following statements:
I have been informed that my non-appearance or late appearance at the experiment for which I have registered may result in the cancellation of the experiment. I am aware that I may be held liable for costs arising from cancelled experiments if I do not inform the institute of my non-participation at least 24 hours before the experiment is to be carried out or if I cannot explain or prove why it was not possible to inform the institute in time or to appear in time.
For each no-show after registration for an experiment - without timely cancellation to the person responsible for the experiment or indication of plausible reasons - the personal account of the participant receives one minus point (see personal data on the website after registration). As soon as the account of a participant contains two minus points, he/she will not be invited again to a performed experiment.
Insurance coverage on the premises of the experimental laboratory exists with regard to legal liability under private law. The Institute shall be liable for all damage for which the laboratory is responsible. There shall be no strict liability.
Internet experiments
The rules for internet experiments are described on the registration page of the respective experiment.
